Portland's “Gettysburg Cyclorama”
Enormous panoramic paintings, or cycloramas, were the rage in late nineteenth-century America.  All but forgotten, Portland's great battle panorama was a unique example of this peculiar art form.

“The Coming of the White Man”
Representations of hidden Native Americans witnessing the initial approach of Europeans was a compelling image in the art of American Manifest Destiny.  No fewer than six public examples within 100 miles of Portland, Oregon, have captivated viewers since 1890.
